Who would have thought that Sharon Stone can actually act? As a death row inmate in "Last Dance" , she is tough and yet scared. She is not a sympathetic character and yet she evokes tender feelings. Rob Morrow as an attorney from the Clemency Board who gets involved with her case - and her - is not nearly as good.

As her execution draws near, the tension soars, to director Bruce Beresford's credit. But to writers Ron Koslow and Steven Haft's shame, the ending does not. But the "Last Dance's" biggest headache is that it comes so quickly on the heels of "Dead Man Walking", and the American public is only ready for so many tales of redemption. Rated R.
