Based on Walgter Mosley's first novel and starring Denzel Washington and Jennifer Beales,
"Devil in a Blue Dress" is a tribute to the 1940s "film noir", a sort of Raymond Chandler
set in L.A.'s South Central. Denzel Washington is surprisingly good (first time in years he
acts instead of just appearing), but "The Prince of Bel Air"'s Don Cheadle almost steals
the movie. Carl Franklin's script is very tight, as is his direction; yet the movie is a
little too pretty for its own good.
