"The Brothers McMullen" took the prize for Best Picture at the
1995 Sundance Film Festival, opened at the art house theaters and is now
available on video which may help it reach the wide audience it deserves.
Jack, Barry and Patrick are Irish boys on Long Island. They lose Mom when
she returns to Ireland to her true love. (Am I spotting a trend here?) Each
has to deal with notions of romance and love in their own amusing way. Patrick,
the good Catholic, isn't sure he wants to marry his fiance. Jack, the happily
married one, contemplates an affair and Barry is dismayed to think that
he may be falling in love. One of the reason that it comes right from the
heart is that it was written, directed by and stars newcomer Edward Burns.
