In Alaska, an ex- fisherman, Joe Gastineu, works to rebuild his life after an accident at sea years earlier. His life is changed when a struggling lounge singer and her troubled daughter come to town. They find comfort in one another and grow gradually closer. Things take an unexpected turn when Joe's fast-talking half brother returns to town and asks a favor of him that will change all of their lives forever.
