Les Destinées sentimentales

In Oliver Assayas' "Les Destinées Sentimentales" a Protestant minister meets a young girl, Pauline, and is immediately taken by her. The minister, married with a daughter, is trapped in a failed marriage and bound by the upright Protestant society they live in. As war tears through Europe, their lives and the world at large are thrown into upheaval. His love for Pauline only grows stronger - stronger even than war and death.
