North American Premiere of Clement Virgo's Acclaimed Rude Launches Perspective Canada Programme
Innovative, dark and daringly honest, RUDE is a surreal, raw and hard-hitting triad of tales. Unfolding over the Easter weekend in a stylized inner-city setting, we meet three young Black protagonists: Maxine (Rachael Crawford), a successful window dresser whose hard-fought choice plunges her relationship into a crisis; Jordan (Richard Chevolleau), a talented but confused boxer who, after a brutal gaybashing, faces up to his own demons; and The General (Maurice Dean Wint), an artist fresh out of jail who faces old temptations while trying to make a clean break from his troubled past. Weaving these tales together are the provocative tirades of Rude (Sharon M. Lewis), a mysterious and sultry young woman operating a pirate radio channel who infiltrates each character's life, providing wit, irony and finally catharsis for all.
Produced by Conquering Lion Productions and The Feature Film Project, an initiative of the Canadian Film Centre, RUDE was co-produced, written and directed by Clement Virgo and produced by Damon D'Oliveira and Karen A. King. RUDE stars Maurice Dean Wint, Rachael Crawford, Clark Johnson, Richard Chevolleau, Sharon M. Lewis, Melanie Nicholls-King, and Stephen Shellen. RUDE is distributed in Canada by Cineplex Odeon Films. The film is represented internationally by Alliance International.
