2004 Taormina BNL Filmfest Diaries
Arriving
Taormina, June 13, 2004 - On the highway from the airport to Taormina, I notice some reckless driving by people trying to peek into our limo. After a while, it occurs to me that they probably hope to see a major star – but no, it's just me, a tenderfoot Film Scout, on "be prepared" patrol, doing a good turn daily by writing this diary to spread the word about what must be the ultimate mediterranean of all Film Festivals – the Taormina BNL FilmFest.
The festival celebrates its 50th edition this year, and I am looking forward to eight days of evening screenings in an open-air Greek theatre with a clear view on mount Etna, to the many attending celebrities (including Judi Dench, Michael Douglas, Peter Weir, Roman Polanski, Isabelle Huppert, Fanny Ardent and Antonio Banderas), and to numerous portions of spaghetti carbonara.
