NICE-VILLE AIRPORT, late evening of May 13 - Passing through customs, the gentleman inspecting my U.S. passport notices my surname and informs me in his heavy Gaul accent, "Schvartz - You have the same last name as Tony Curtis."
Welcome to Cannes, where even the customs agents have a recall for such trivial celebrity minutiae as actors' offstage names. Slightly bizarre. Indeed, Tony Curtis was formerly Bernard Schwartz.
The agent stamped my passport and let me through.
