2002 Cannes Film Festival Diaries
Frog Blog Five: Parting Thoughts
Cannes, May 24, 2002 - As predicted, I won't go back today or this weekend, as I won't be around this region, following a great Cannes tradition to ignore the last days of the Festival - some of the trades do their last issue today, and then pack up and go home, and many people do as well. So here are only a couple of predictions for the last days:
- Saturday night will be overcrowded by tourists and locals, and those who have stayed in town will spend time until the early hours Sunday morning revelling and saying good-byes in the "Little Majestic", then take the train/plane straight from there.
- Sunday really everybody will have left. Nevertheless, there will still be a price ceremony. It will be "charmingly improvised" aka slightly chaotic.
- The winning Film will be something you'll probably never get to see. It will not be the Palistinean movie, and not the Aki Kaurismäki movie, because those were the ones that people mentioned as potential winners.
- Monday morning, the Croissette will be squeaky clean, devoid of any movie posters, and very empty.
And next year, we start again, with an Industry Flight.
